Nobody likes Christmas decorations when they begin to populate store shelves in late October, but how do we feel about pumpkin beers in August?
By Aug. 9, I could already buy a six-pack of Schlafly’s (delicious) pumpkin ale. That seemed mighty early to me, almost intrusive — I’m not finished with this kolsch just yet, thank you very much. But as we near September, that summer six-pack you’ve been eyeing will soon be turning into a pumpkin.
Around here, few do it better than Dogfish Head, which (as detailed in Nightlife Agenda) will celebrate the release of this season’s Punkin Ale (which we tasted in 2010) with tapping parties at its D.C. area alehouses. The beers begin flowing tonight at the Fairfax location, and all three locations (including Gaithersburg and Falls Church) are hosting beer bashes Saturday.
Personally, I prefer to save my pumpkin beer consumption for September and October, but I realize I’m really pushing right up against Christmas ale season that way.
