A few notes on the best way to make sure you get tickets for this year’s Virgin Mobile FreeFest — featuring Jack White, Skrillex, Nas, ZZ Top and many more — coming to Merriweather Post Pavilion on Oct. 6.
Tickets go “on free” Friday at noon, but there is a pre-sale (pre-free?) on Thursday. The link and password will be released on the Virgin Mobile Live Twitter account (@virginmlive), so follow that account for details. The pre-sale begins at noon — no word on how many of the approximately 50,000 tickets will be put up for grabs.
When general tickets become available Friday at noon, there will be tens of thousands of people on the Ticketfly site trying to claim them. The site may not load. You may get frustrated. But you should not give up. The FreeFest site offers two helpful pieces of information:
1. “Before you try to get tickets, create an account on Ticketfly.” One less hoop to jump through as you are clicking away against other potential concertgoers.
2. “If you’re getting an error or restricted message, clear your cache, restart your browser and try again!” Try using multiple browsers. Try Chrome, try Firefox, try Safari. Maybe one of them will be your good luck charm.
Some fine print to be aware of: There is a 2 ticket limit per person/credit card/billing and shipping address. Over the limit orders will be cancelled. Must have ID matching name on ticket for entry. They mean business with this one. Orders will be canceled.
If you want to avoid the headache of trying to get free tickets, there’s always the option of purchasing a “Freemium Package” for $49.50. That gets a ticket, a t-shirt and a souvenir cup that comes with unlimited free soda on the day of the festival.
One last tip — keep trying. Ticketfly’s site will experience an onslaught as people try to score tickets. It could be slow-going and it could mean that tickets will pop up. And there will be people who try to get four tickets on a single credit card and those tickets will be thrown back into the pool. So keep clicking.
