Film critic Mark Jenkins gave the new sci-fi thriller “Chronicle” only two stars in his review Friday, writing that “a pretty good idea for a sci-fi thriller is undermined by hastiness - and by the pretense that it was mostly shot by one of its protagonists.”
But that didn’t stop millions from turning out to see the film for themselves this weekend. “Chronicle” earned $22 million, while Daniel Radcliffe’s “The Woman in Black” came in a close second with $21 million.
Here are the weekend’s top ten movies at the box office:
1. “Chronicle,” $22 million
2. “The Woman in Black,” $21 million
3. “The Grey,” $9.5 million
4. “Big Miracle,” $8.5 million
5. “Underworld: Awakening,” $5.6 million
6. “One for the Money,” $5.2 million
7. “Red Tails,” $5 million
8. “The Descendants,” $4.6 million
9. “Man on a Ledge,” $4.5 million
10. “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,” $3.9 million
