The DC Beerathon is a citywide bar crawl in which 26 bars each pour a different beer. You pay $65 to sample the beer at as many bars as you want Saturday from noon until 3 a.m.
Not all of the included beer-and-bar combinations offer the same bang for your buck. The good: Devils Backbone at Nellie’s; Allagash White at the Reef; Samuel Smith’s Organic Chocolate Stout at Science Club. Not as noteworthy: Heineken at Buffalo Billiards; Peroni at Darlington House; or Blue Moon at Ben’s Next Door.
If you’re taking on this challenge, check out the map, pick the beers you want to try and go to those bars first, so you don’t find yourself sipping Sol at Alero.
Also for beer drinkers on Saturday: Novemberfest at Rustico in Alexandria.
Dozens of taps will be pouring Christmas ales from St. Bernardus and Great Lakes, the rich, new Belgian-style quadruple from DC Brau, and a 2010-vintage keg of Dogfish Head’s high-octane Olde School Barleywine. Remember to bundle up, as the festival is held in Rustico’s parking lot. (The $15 admission includes a souvenir mug and 10 food and drink tickets; most beers will cost three to four tickets for a tasting pour, and six to eight for a full-size glass.)
