You aren’t just imagining it — the D.C. area really is being overrun with young adults. A new Census report says that “the region, including the suburbs in Maryland and Virginia, gained about 7,000 people ages 25 to 34 in each of the past three years. That was the sixth-highest rate in the nation, just behind Austin and ahead of Portland, Ore.”
D.C. sandwiched between havens of hip Austin and Portland? Really? Austin hosts the iconic SXSW festival each spring and is known as the Live Music Capital of the World. Portland has such a reputation as the capital of cool that it inspired its own hip comedy show, “Portlandia.” And D.C. is ... well?
Maybe there’s not one trademark centerpiece, but there’s plenty to offer.
Plentiful after-hours art parties. Tons of bars for true beer lovers. A city that’s easily navigable by bike. A nightlife scene that offers dozens of top options every week. Endless meetup possibilities for those looking to expand their social circle. Fine restaurants all around.
And there’s more where that came from.
