Does your dad like beer?
No, this not a trick question. Because if he does, we may have an answer to the proverbial “I have no idea what to get Dad for Father’s Day” question.
Dogfish Head Alehouses
The three Dogfish Head Alehouses are each sponsoring five-course Father’s Day Beer Dinners, and although none of them are technically on Sunday (Fairfax on Monday and Tuesday, Gaithersburg and Falls Church on Tuesday), we can’t imagine Dad would turn down a chance to try gazpacho with crab paired with 60 Minute IPA or braised short ribs and oak-aged Burton Baton ale. Tickets are $65, which includes tax and tip, and reservations are required.
Here’s a gift that keeps on giving: Mad Fox Brewing Company is selling limited edition etched growlers and a $25 gift card for $55 (including tax) this week. (You can pre-order on Mad Fox’s website.) Bring Dad to the Father’s Day brunch, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, and he can take home 64 ounces of his favorite beer. (Each growler fill runs $11 to $16, so the gift card should allow him to come back for another refill.)
Jack Rose Dining Saloon
Jack Rose is covering the “Mad Men”-esque dad stereotypes with huge hunks of beef and plenty of beer or whiskey. Its Father’s Day package includes a 38-ounce cowboy steak and sides for $38. For an additional charge, dad can pick a tasting flight of three one-ounce glasses of Scotch or bourbon ($15 each), or four four-ounce glasses of microbrewed beer ($7). Staff will be on hand to answer questions about beverages. Reservations are taken for between 5 and 10 p.m. through Open Table.
