The Gurus round up the week’s must-read blog posts, tweets and restaurant/bar rumor-mongering.
In last week’s marathon Going Out Gurus chat, writer Justin Rude noted that it felt like all the air had been let out of Restaurant Week — before it even began. “Almost no one seems interested in it this year,” he wrote, “Both in our chats and in the greater DC food blogosphere. Has the luster worn off the promotion?”
As the Restaurant Week kicks off today, the City Paper is asking readers much the same question, and the responses so far have been uniformly negative (and strangely all targeted at Vidalia). But one commenter may have hit the nail on the head when she suggested discount sites such as Living Social and Groupon — which effectively offer half-price meals -- make RW look a lot less attractive.

Just days before Thievery Corporation takes the stage at Kastles Stadium for an unusual waterfront show on Saturday, local musician/entrepreneur Eric Hilton chatted with Washingtonian about Thievery, music and about his already storied upcoming venture (and there is always an upcoming venture) the Brixton. The latest on the English-themed pub being built on U and Ninth streets is that it will be dedicated to the food and culture of the British immigrant population. The curry-scented menu, Hilton reveals, may include such spicy fare as chicken tikka masala and Trinidandian food. [Washingtonian]

Beer Week, which doesn’t seem to be having any problem getting a buzz; every bar seems to be hosting something, including eating competitions, the launch party for a new D.C.-brewed beer and a totally sold-out cruise last night.
