Fillmore Silver Spring officially opened for business on Thursday night when the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige, performed in front of a packed house. The 2,000-capacity venue on Colesville Road is immediately one of the biggest players on the local concert scene, and it should particularly appeal to Maryland residents, who finally have a major venue in their backyard.
It’s obviously too early to have complete thoughts about the Fillmore concertgoing experience. But its opening serves as a good opportunity to take inventory of the other top venues in the area. In today’s Weekend section cover story, we take an early look at the Fillmore and tell you what we love — and what might change — about the D.C. area’s top 10 live music spots.
