Each summer, the Washington Post’s Weekend section and Going Out Guide (y’know: us) sponsor a free concert series at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre featuring top local acts in a beautiful Rock Creek Park setting.
The 2012 series returns Friday at 7:30 p.m. with an evening of jazz. Howard University alum Akua Allrich headlines the bill with opening acts the Jolley Brothers and the Jess Righthand Quartet. (If you recognize Jess’s name, that’s because she writes for us.)
The concerts are, of course, free. But unlike in previous years, you don’t need to worry about picking up tickets for the show beforehand. Admission is first-come, first-served, and gates open at 7 p.m.
We hope to see many of you out there in the weeks ahead. Check out the full schedule below:
June 15: Jazz Night, featuring Akua Allrich, the Jolley Brothers and the Jess Righthand Quintet.
June 22: Reggae Night, featuring Image Band, JohnStone Reggae Band and Akua Benjamin with Ilahvibez.
June 29: Boogie-Blues Night, featuring the Daryl Davis Band and the Grandsons.
July 13: Neo-Soul Night, featuring Yahzarah, Deborah Bond and Tamika “Love” Jones.
