Free ways to beat the heat

It’s hot out there, and you don’t like it. You’ve made it pretty clear with your incessant grumbling about frizzy hair, back sweat and stifling
Hopefully you’ll be too busy eating frozen yogurt tonight to complain about the heat. (Photo by Joe Yonan/ The Washington Post)
Metro commutes. But it’s not all bad news. In addition to the Beat the Heat Happy Hour on H Street, some other area destinations are making the high temperatures a little more bearable.

Tonight, you can cool down courtesy of Gilt City, which is celebrating its D.C. launch with free frozen yogurt at Sweetgreen. Just head to the Dupont, Logan Circle or Georgetown locations between 6 and 8 p.m. to grab your tangy treat.

If there’s one place where sweating isn’t just acceptable but encouraged, it’s the gym. How convenient then that Washington Sports Club’s August promotion offers free entry to non-members when the temperature hits 90 degrees or higher. As long as you're 18 or older, just bring an ID to any of the WSC locations and say you’re there for the “heat wave promotion.” The only catch: The deal isn’t available between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. And that’s good news for those of us who don’t feel like doing battle for a spin bike tonight. Check out a list of all the area clubs here.
