Getting Up Guide: Early afternoon edition

So maybe it should be called the wide-awake guide today; nevertheless, here’s a look at what’s happening around town Tuesday night:

Loose Lips At-Large Candidate Debate

D.C. politics is the featured act at the Black Cat tonight, as the Washington City Paper’s Loose Lips columnists, along with Tom Sherwood and Chuck Thies, host a debate featuring candidates for the D.C. Council’s at-large position. Hear from Sekou Biddle, Arkan Haile, Joshua Lopez, Patrick Mara, Vincent Orange and Bryan Weaver beginning at 7 p.m.

What’s David Harrington Listening To?

Want to know what the artistic director of the internationally acclaimed Kronos Quartet is listening to? David Harrington shares his latest musings on music, from his new favorite artists to his biggest inspirations. Then, stick around to see Kronos perform student compositions at 8 p.m. in the Clarice Smith Center’s Dekelboum Concert Hall.

Yuri’s Night

On the actual anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight, Science Club is hosting the only Yuri’s Night event in D.C. proper. (The Goddard Space Flight Center is not participating this year.) Space geeks — er, fans — can watch the film “First Orbit,” shot on the International Space Station, which traces Gagarin’s original orbit; participate in a Lego-building contest; answer space trivia questions to win prizes; and sip space-themed vodka cocktails as well as all-night happy hour specials.
