Guru picks: What do do this week

Every Monday, the Going Out Guide publishes an e-mail newsletter with our recommended events for the week ahead. If you don’t subscribe, here’s a peek at what you’re missing. If you’d like to sign up, you can do that on washingtonpost.com’s Newsletters page; the Going Out Guide is listed under the “Local &Sports” header.

Thursday

Turkey day swing

Shake off some of those Thanksgiving Day calories as you dance to the sounds of the Daryl Davis Band as part of the Kennedy Center’s Swing, Swing, Swing festival. The free sets at 5 and 8:30 p.m. will be preceded by dance lessons.

Everything but the turkey

Going vegetarian on Thanksgiving is a lonely pursuit. But it doesn’t have to be. The Vegetarian Society of DC hosts a sprawling get-together for the tofu set, complete with vegan stuffing and pumpkin pie.

Starting Friday

Toga party

Wear a toga to Arena Stage and get pay-what-you-can tickets to the rollicking farce “You, Nero,” based on one of ancient Rome’s most infamous emperors.

Saturday

Dance off your dinner

The Mousetrap provided a monthly fix of Britpop and indie rock dance tunes at the Black Cat for a decade. It makes a return for a special Thankgiving-weekend reunion.

Sunday

Mastodon’s mighty roar

End your long weekend in a seriously loud way as Georgia metal/sludge rock standouts Mastodon visit 9:30 Club.
