Have a happy Halloween with your hound

This is a part of a series of Halloween-related blog post. We’ve previously covered events for kids, spooky theater, pumpkin carving contests, pumpkin patches and local ghost tours.

Forget what you’re wearing for this weekend’s Halloween parties — how is your dog dressing up?

There are several chances for your pooch to get in on the costumed fun in the next few days, including some that help charities.

Thursday, Oct. 25: Hoooowloween at the Blue Banana

The Blue Banana’s monthly Yappy Hour in support of the Washington Humane Society takes a spooky turn in October. Dogs are invited to wear their favorite costumes while enjoying special Halloween treats. As always, people get $4 drink specials all night, and 20 percent of proceeds benefit the Washington Humane Society.

Monday, Oct. 29: Howl-O-Ween at Cantina Marina

The Washington Animal Rescue League’s pup-friendly Halloween party on the Southwest waterfront features a doggy costume contest, drink specials for people and free food and water for dogs. You don’t need to have a dog to attend: WARL will have adoptable dogs at the bar.

Tuesday, Oct. 30: Doggie Happy Hour Howl-O-Ween Party at the Hotel Monaco

The last Doggie Happy Hour of 2012 features four different costume contests for four-legged friends: Most Political Pooch, Most Glamorous Get-Up, Best-Dressed Couple for a dog and owner, and the best-in-show Top Dog award. Prizes include overnight stays and dinner reservations at the dog-friendly Hotels Monaco in Alexandria, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia.

To compete, register at the Royal Street entrance of the hotel between 4:30 and 5:30. Only the first 50 dogs can enter the contest, so early arrival is suggested.

As always, dog treats and water in the hotel’s spacious courtyard are free, and people can get snacks and drinks at the Jackson 20 hotel lounge.
