‘Hunger Games’ strikes yet again at box office

Moviegoers this weekend once again spent considerably more money watching Katniss Everdeen compete in “The Hunger Games” than they did on both the “American Pie” sequel and the return of Kate and Leo in “Titanic 3D.”

Those two sequels didn’t fare too poorly, but they were no match for “The Hunger Games,” which earned a remarkable $33.5 million more in its third weekend in theaters (“American Reunion” trailed at No. 2, grossing $21.5 million). Here are the weekend’s top ten movies at the box office:

1. “The Hunger Games,” $33.5 million

2. “American Reunion,” $21.5 million

3. “Titanic 3D,” $17.4 million

4. “Wrath of the Titans,” $15 million

5. “Mirror Mirror,” $11 million

6. “21 Jump Street,” $10.2 million

7. “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax,” $5 million

8. “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen,” $1 million

9. “John Carter,” $0.8 million

10. “Safe House,” $0.6 million
