Intern Guide: budget beer and bites

D.C. Reynolds boasts a large patio filled with picnic tables that’s perfect for summer happy hours. Every weeknight, the Petworth bar offers two-for-one drink specials. (Photo by Craig L. Moran for The Washington Post)
Every summer, thousands of interns flock to Washington. They have big dreams and small salaries — if they get a stipend at all. We feel for these newcomers, who don’t know their way around the city or the office yet. It’s hard to be overworked and underpaid, wanting to go out and have fun on a ramen-noodles-for-dinner budget. With that in mind, here’s advice for enjoying drinks and food on the cheap. We’ll be adding more suggestions and best bets lists throughout the summer.

Beer for a buck : Hit happy hour with the change from your sofa cushions.

Two-for-one drink specials : Deals that feel twice as good.

You have to eat, too : From pizza to Korean dumplings, where to fill up at happy hour.
