Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly to stage “The Rumble 2012” debate at Lisner Auditorium on Oct. 6

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart returns to Washington for an Oct. 6 debate with Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly. (Michael S. Williamson/The Washington Post)
The news is only a few hours old, but you’ve probably heard about the planned debate between Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly at Lisner Auditorium. “The Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium,”as it’s being called, will take place Oct. 6 at 8 p.m.

This won’t be the first time the two have squared off, as the cable hosts are frequent (and often good-natured) combatants on the other’s television shows, but it would appear to be the first time they’ve done so in public arena.

Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. through the Lisner box office and cost $75 to $100, with a select number of $25 tickets for George Washington University students. Half of the proceeds will be donated to charitable causes, according to the event’s Web site. And if you can’t get tickets or shell out that much for a ticket, the event will be live-streamed for $4.95. “It’s why Al Gore invented the internet,” the Web site boasts.
