Last chance: Help name Aaron Gordon’s 14th Street restaurant

Our contest to help local restaurateur Aaron Gordon name his forthcoming 14th Street tavern is entering its final day, but there’s still time to get involved. We’re closing the comments on the contest post tomorrow at 3 p.m. and preparing to help Gordon pick a winner. Gordon said this morning that he has been thrilled with the response. He likes all the references to California, Beat and Gonzo literary figures and characters, and local culture and history, but said he would also enjoy seeing more general entries. Gordon said he wouldn’t be afraid of picking something “very quirky or celebrating the community aspect of the restaurant.”

Looking for inspiration? Some of our favorites so far include Vittles and Tap, the Subterraneans (after the novel by Jack Kerouac), Woody Creek (a callout to the longtime home of Hunter S. Thompson) and Auto Row (a nod to the 14th Street neighborhood’s showroom-filled past).

And don’t forget to tune into Thursday’s Got Plans? chat, when Gordon will announce the winner and take your questions about the D.C. dining and entertainment scene.
