Two things Washingtonians love in the summer: DJ’ed pool parties and food truck festivals. Conveniently, a new twice-monthly event at the Capitol Skyline Hotel called Mother Trucker will feature both.
Organized in collaboration with the Rock and Roll Hotel, Sticky Rice and Dangerously Delicious Pies, the day-long Saturday affair kicks off May 19 and “is going to be kind of similar to the pool parties that Capitol Skyline had last year,” with DJs, multiple bars and inflatable bouncy castles, says Mother Trucker’s Dianna Townsend.
The difference will be “15 to 20 food trucks” in the parking lot adjacent to the hotel’s large pool deck and patio. Townsend says there won’t be a charge for the public to check out the vendors or play corn hole and other games, though there will be a $15 cover to access the pool area, where local and out-of-town DJs will spin. Other projected entertainment includes fire-breathers, aerial performance artists and a “human car wash.”.
Outside of food trucks, the format for Mother Trucker is very similar to the legendary Brightest Young Things pool parties that have been held at the Capitol Skyline over the past two summers. But replicating their success won’t be easy — several other groups have tried to host Saturday afternoon pool parties without becoming a lasting success.
Upcoming dates for Mother Trucker include June 9 and 23, July 14 and 28, and August 11 and 25. The gates will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and pool party attendees can book discount $94 rooms at the hotel if they want to keep the party going afterwards.
