Plan your weekend: Chinese New Year Parade, French Galleries

Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with the Chinese New Year Parade in Chinatown. (MATT MCCLAIN - FOR THE WASHINGTON POST)
We’ve got our list of the best events you should check out this weekend. Some of our favorites: the reopening of the French Galleries at the National Gallery of Art, a parade to mark the early days of the Year of the Dragon and the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam.

Here at the Going Out Guide, we’ve had the Lunar New Year on the mind, compiling a photo gallery of some of our favorite area Chinese food restaurants. This Sunday, the local Chinese community will celebrate with a parade, featuring dragon floats, marching bands, music and dancing, in Chinatown. Festivities begin at 2 p.m., after which you can grab a delicious dish.

After a two-year renovation to the French Galleries in the National Gallery of Art, works by Manet, Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin and others will once again be on display. The biggest change: the pieces have been re-arranged to focus on the thematic similarities and historic narratives behind the works.

All this weekend we have the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam at the Verizon Center. We could do that ting where we type out the fake microphone echo like in all the commercials, but we’ll just let the video of Grave Digger do all the talking.
