Poll: Which D.C. sandwich shop is tops?

Today, we mark the 293rd birthday of The Right Honourable John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich and, yes, the guy most people credit with inventing your lunch. To mark the occasion, some savvy marketer declared Nov. 3 “National Sandwich Day,” which I imagine can only be celebrated through the spirited application of meat, vegetables and condiments to slices of bread.

Most of us, of course, celebrate the good Earl’s accomplishments more than once a year. And with so many excellent sandwich options available in the D.C. area — take the bars-serving-barbecue trend, for example — it’s a great time to be a sandwich-loving diner.

So to mark this festive occasion, I put this question to a poll: Who makes the best sandwiches in the D.C. area? Browse through our list of best sandwich shops and cast your vote. Are we missing your favorite place? Tell us in the comments or tweet us @goingoutguide.

And if you need some inspiration, click through for photos of some of our favorites.
