Radius Pizza reprieve? Well, there’s always Pete’s

Radius Pizza may be no more, but readers are full of ideas for other neighborhood restaurants, including Haven Pizzeria Napoletana in Bethesda. (Bill O'Leary/The Washington Post)
Just as I was coming to grips that I may never get to savor a Radius Pizza slice again, Washington City Paper throws me a bone: the Young & Hungry blog reports the the Mount Pleasant restaurant will be trading owners and could possibly reopen by September.

In restaurant years, that likely means spring 2013.

But the possiblity of pizza is better than no pizza ever again, right?

Luckily, Going Out Guide readers offered up a healthy serving of stand-ins on my last post to tide me over during the wait for a reopening. It seems I’ll be heading out on a very diverse eating tour of the District. Below is a list of a few of the places I’m most interesting in sampling. See the whole list in the comments . Thanks for the tips!

Oohhs & Aaahs on U Street

BarnesGene writes: “The soul food is magnificent. Eat there and you won’t miss the pizza.”

El Pollo Rico in Arlington

El_Oscuro writes: “The rotisserie chicken is amazing, of course... However, what amazed me the most was the fries — the best I have ever had since the Pommes Frites I had at the Imbiss in Germany.”

Fiorella Pizzeria in National Harbor

Terry in Silver Spring writes: “The food and the service are outstanding.”

Astor Mediterranean in Adams Morgan

GThronton2 writes: “For the best Pizza you should try “Astors Pizza” at 18th and Columbia Rd. in Adams Morgan just next to Bank of America. The Greek Pizza is my absolute favorite and they have been there at least 20 years!”

Don Churro Cafe in Chantilly

LatininChantilly writes: “Love to grab a few empanadas from Don Churro Cafe, especially their Saltena Boliviana — I think they’ve been there for at least 5 years and they keep getting better (and busier).”

Haven Pizzeria Napoletana in Bethesda

Bkshane writes: “I do like the new shop in Bethesda called Haven. Wood fired pizza which is always great along with some fantastic gelato. Worth a visit.”
