One of Washington’s favorite summer traditions returns tonight: Screen on the Green. The 2012 Screen on the Green series launches with the classic western “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”
If you’re going tonight, here are a few things to remember:
Due to work on the National Mall, the location of the screen and viewing area is between Seventh and 12th streets.
Movies begin at sunset — tonight, that’s around 8:30 — but you should arrive earlier to reserve a spot and spread out your blanket. Picnics are encouraged, alcohol is forbidden.
The HBO theme plays before the main feature. You’re supposed to get up and dance.
And, of course, Screen on the Green isn’t the only free outdoor film series in the area. We’ve put together a list of the best, from Rockville to Rosslyn. Whether you’re a fan of “All the President’s Men,” “Stand By Me” or “The Incredibles,” you’re sure to find one you’ll like.
