Screen on the Green kicks off tonight

If you’re going tonight, here are a few things to remember:

Due to work on the National Mall, the location of the screen and viewing area is between Seventh and 12th streets.

Movies begin at sunset — tonight, that’s around 8:30 — but you should arrive earlier to reserve a spot and spread out your blanket. Picnics are encouraged, alcohol is forbidden.

The HBO theme plays before the main feature. You’re supposed to get up and dance.

And, of course, Screen on the Green isn’t the only free outdoor film series in the area. We’ve put together a list of the best, from Rockville to Rosslyn. Whether you’re a fan of “All the President’s Men,” “Stand By Me” or “The Incredibles,” you’re sure to find one you’ll like.

Fritz Hahn has covered bars, drinks and nightlife for the Washington Post Weekend Section since 2003, but he also writes about everything from Civil War battlefields to sailing classes. You can find him on Twitter and Instagram.
