The best word for a Christmas feast — smörgåsbord, seriously, just say it a few times — is coming to Petworth. Domku will be hosting its first traditional Swedish Christmas spread, a type of smörgåsbord called a julbord, on Dec. 20.
“In true Domku style, it will be Scandinavian and Slavic themed,” said owner Kera Carpenter. “We’re calling it Smorgasbordski.”
The traditional Swedish Christmas buffet table will include “pickled herring, gravlax, roasts, a variety of salads, Janssen’s Temptation [a potato and anchovy casserole], sausages, cheeses, breads, smorrebrod, and desserts.” There will, of course, be Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce, and every meal comes with a shot of flavored aquavit and glogg, a spiced mulled wine. A press release notes that there will be plenty of vegetarian options, as well.
Seating for the event is by reservation only, and costs $70, excluding tax and tip. There will be two seatings, at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., and you can save your spot through Domku’s Eventbrite page. There’s only enough space for 50 people.
