Stay ahead of the payroll tax increase with D.C.’s best low-cost events, attractions and happy hours

Don’t look now, but your take-home paycheck just got a little smaller. The end of the payroll tax holiday on January 1 means that taxes on salaries just went up from 4.2 percent to 6.2 percent. Translation: Those earning $50,000 will pay about $1,000 more in taxes this year, while a person making $35,000 will pay $700 more than in 2012.
