Surprise: Bar owners in favor of extended bar hours

Mayor Vincent Gray says he expects the Hamilton, above, which is open 24/7, to be one of the main beneficiaries of extended alcohol sales times. (Tracy A. Woodward/The Washington Post)
The D.C. City Council held a hearing today about Mayor Vince Gray’s plan to extend alcohol sales by an hour per day, allowing bars to stay open until 3 a.m. on weeknights and 4 a.m. on weekends. Not surprisingly, the bar owners who testified say they’re in favor of the idea of serving more customers and, presumably, making more money. (The police and the city’s Alcohol Beverage Regulation Administration say enforcing extended hours won’t be a problem.)
