We’ve got our picks for the best things to do in the D.C. area this weekend, including the Beach Boys celebrating their 50th anniversary, James Joyce fans marking Bloomsday and “Beauty and the Beast” offering fun for all ages

Over the course of their 50 years, the Beach Boys have experienced enough turmoil and lineup changes to make any band want to call it quits for good. But they’ve survived, and for the first time in years, pop mastermind Brian Wilson is back in the fold. You can expect to hear plenty of classic songs — “Little Deuce Coupe,” “Good Vibrations” and so many more — and several cuts from their new album “That’s Why God Made the Radio.”

Saturday marks the 108th “anniversary” of the Dublin date depicted in the James Joyce novel “Ulysses.” And for fans of Joyce’s novel, the annual celebration known as Bloomsday is a chance to relive the stories of Leopold Bloom, Molly Bloom and Stephen Dedalus. Head to Politics & Prose for a marathon reading of the first three chapters of the book.

“Beauty and the Beast,” the story of a prince who finds love despite being under a curse rendering him a hairy beast, has become a hugely popular fairy tale thanks in large part to the animated Disney film of the same name. That animated adaptation is being staged as a play at the National Theatre, and it’s sure to cast the same spell on audiences.
