The downtown Jimmy John’s is open

Because it has become Sandwich Central around here in the last few days, it’s our duty to report that the Jimmy John’s at 14th and L streets NW opened for business today.

This is big news if you’re into fast-casual national chains opening their first locations in our sandwich-loving city. University of Maryland alums of a certain age will be familiar with the chain’s black-and-red “JJ” logo from the College Park store; Jimmy John’s also has locations in Annapolis, Baltimore, Columbia, Frederick, Arlington and Alexandria, to name a few.

The main difference between Jimmy John’s and, say, Potbelly’s is that your sandwiches come on either an eight-inch sub roll ($4.95) or thick-sliced seven-grain ($5.95). They aren’t toasted, either. Delivery is available to locations within the boundaries of Q Street NW to the north, H Street NW to the south, 9th Street NW to the east and 16th St. NW to the west.

Personally, I’ll take a Vito (pictured) or Bootlegger Club from Jimmy John’s over a Wreck any day of the week, mainly because of the quality of the bread.

What say you?
