Things to do in D.C. this weekend: Discovery celebrations, Cherry Blast

Celebrations marking the arrival of the space shuttle Discovery continue this weekend. (Bill O'Leary/ The Washington Post)
You didn’t think the celebration of the space shuttle Discovery’s arrival was over, did you? We’ve rounded up a list of the best things to do in D.C. this weekend, and the festivities surrounding Discovery should rank high for anyone excited about the craft’s piggyback ride into town.

This weekend, the Udvar-Hazy Center hosts activities for all ages as part of the welcoming party for Discovery. The Family Weekend includes demonstrations for kids and discussions with astronauts. And naturally, you’ll get the chance to see the ship up close for yourself.

UPDATE: “Dance in the Circle” has been postponed until May 13. On Saturday, local dance companies take over Dupont Circle to teach everything from clogging to hip-hop and to perform their own rountines. At 8 p.m., show off your new skills and bust a move at a dance party in the circle.

Also on Saturday, the Cherry Blast party in Anacostia brings light installations, aerial dancers, the Batala Brazilian drum troupe and interactive exhibits to the Lightbox space. You can also grab food at a pop-up Busboys and Poets cafe and enjoy electronic music from Protect-U and Heavy Breathing.

These are just a few of our picks; see the full list (and more than a dozen more ideas) of the best events this weekend.
