It's a holiday weekend, but there’s a lot going on in the arts, too. Read some highlights here and check out our full list of best things do to in D.C. this weekend.
The D.C. music scene is celebrating something old and something (fairly) new this weekend. At Montserrat House, local label Windian Records marks its second anniversary of releasing punk and garage rock with a two nights of shows, featuring yesteryear bands the Penetrators and the Bizarros and straight-ahead San Diego punks Spider Fever. Artisphere salutes the 20th anniversary of cult favorite fanzine “Chickfactor” with a reunion from D.C. noise-pop act Black Tambourine and indie pop acts Stevie Jackson, Frankie Rose, Lilys and more.
Take your kids — or bring the kid at heart — to the College Park Aviation Museum for Paper Airplane Day. Brush up on your folding and aiming skills, test your craft on the museum’s airplane launcher and participate in a derby for prizes.
It’s hard to believe the D.C. Caribbean Carnival is only a few months away. Kick off the season at Crossroads, which hosts the Glorious Fete, a party featuring DJs spinning local soca and island sounds.
