Kangaroo Boxing Club’s brisket burger and other reasons to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day

I’m normally a curmudgeon when it comes to national food celebration days. National Banana Bread Day (Feb. 23)... zzzzzzzzzz. But there are a few notable exceptions. National Tequila Day (July 24)? Yes please. National Cheeseburger Day, on Tuesday? I’ll get up for that.

In honor of this vitally important day of national observance, we have updated the Going Out Guide’s best burgers list . Among the new additions is the Kangaroo Boxing Club, the young Columbia Heights restaurant from the guys behind the PORC food truck. The restaurant is known more for its barbecue than its burgers, but this might be the place I choose to celebrate the holiday. Where else are you going to get patties of ground Angus beef blended with smoked brisket and 18-hour smoked beef? Glorious.

If you want to celebrate with a deal, consider the Palm, which is serving one of five burgers and a side of hand-cut fries for $8.37 all week. Or head to Gordon Biersch where a burger and beer goes for $10 tomorrow and Wednesday.
