Try out the new, free Going Out Guide app

“So, where to?”

That’s a question that gets asked frequently, whether you’re heading out on the town with friends or looking ahead to the weekend with the family. Either way, making those plans is about to become a whole lot easier: Introducing the all-new Going Out Guide app for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, now available free on the App Store.

It’s just like having the Going Out Gurus crammed in your pocket, only much more comfortable: You’ll have our searchable database of bars, restaurants, events and “Best Of” lists with you on the go. Whether you’re looking for sushi in Adams Morgan, wings in Wheaton or a wine bar in Woodbridge, we’ll let you know what’s great.

Looking for dinner and a movie? Read Tom Sietsema’s latest dining reviews and make lunch or dinner reservations straight from the app; browse movies playing nearby, watch trailers and read reviews by Ann Hornaday, Michael O’Sullivan and the rest of The Washington Post’s film critics while you wait for your check.

But perhaps the coolest feature of the app is the What’s on Deck browser, where Post editors (that would be us) let you flip through handpicked events and diversions in the days ahead. Want to know where to watch tonight’s Redskins game or where to go apple picking this weekend? What’s on Deck has your answer, with picks added daily.

Once you’ve figured out where you’re headed, the app’s Twitter and Facebook integration lets you loop in your friends. And if you need to know how to get where you’re going, use the app to map your route, look up the next train times at the nearest Metro station or find the nearest ATM to get cash for a taxi.

And did we mention that it’s free? If you have our original app on your device already, look for the update prompt. If not, head to the App Store now and check it out. Take it for a spin and let us know what you think in the comments, @goingoutguide on Twitter and on facebook.com/goingoutguide.
