Weekend update: Leesburg’s charm

In today’s Weekend section, explore the eclectic mix of shops, restaurants and historic sites in Leesburg. It’s a great destination for just about everyone on your holiday gift list.

We’ve rounded up a list of the best events going on this weekend, including the Washington Craft Show, a performance by comedian Marc Maron and Santa’s scuba-diving plunge at the Olney Swim Center.

David Malitz profiles up-and-coming rap group G-Side, a duo perfectly content to stay in their hometown of Huntsville, Ala., where they’ve helped cultivate a burgeoning music scene.

Also see record reviews from New Pornographers member Kathryn Calder, singer-guitarist Bombino, indie Americana rockers the Barr Brothers, singer-songwriter Tori Amos and soul duo Les Nubians.

New Year’s Eve may seem far off, but some of the best parties and concerts are selling tickets — and fast. Frtiz Hahn gives you all the details on where to book and how.

In the search of a good sandwich? Local chain Booeymonger offers a homegrown alternative in a city filled with Subway and Quiznos.

At the exhibit “On the Lakeshore ... And Other Stories,”the photographs of Iris Janke, Kaitlin Jencso and Sara J. Winston find the beauty in life’s little moments.

Some holiday shows like “The Nutcracker” and “A Christmas Carol” are steeped in tradition, but there are plenty of offerings out there for the holiday cynics.

For hikers willing to brave the cold, the Jug Bay Natural Area near Upper Marlboro offers trails through woodlands, swamps and marshes that serve as a welcome backdrop for bird-watching.

And we have three-star movie reviews for “Shame” and “The Other F Word.”
