Weekend update: Let’s meetup

Meeting new people is never easy. In today’s Weekend section, our reporter, Lavanya Ramanathan, documented her week going to events found on, a site that encourages people to get out of the house and participate in fun activities with new potential friends. From running to dining to dancing, there’s a group for just about everyone and everything.

Also in today’s Weekend section:

We round up our picks for the best events this weekend, including a festival of film noir classics, a week-long bacon love fest and the dedication ceremony for the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

Also, see record reviews of jazz piano trio Pilc Moutin Hoenig, indie duo An Horse, progressive metal band Dream Theater, pop-punkers Mayday Parade and indie rockers Givers.

A look at the works by four artists who created site-specific works in the Flashpoint Gallery as part of “Site Aperture.”

Find out how choreographer Dana Tai Soon Burgess used the life story of one of his dancers in “Becoming American.”

To see, or not to see? Two productions of Shakespeare’s “Othello” are in town. How do they stack up?

And get all the latest movie reviews, including Ann Hornaday’s four-star review the Michael Shannon film “Take Shelter.”
