Weekend update: Off-the-wall workouts

You’ve done the gym before. The same weight machines. The treadmills. It all can become a boring routine. Well, today’s issue of Weekend features five weird workouts that put the fun back into burning those calories.

Also in Weekend today:

We have picks for the best events this weekend, including a concert by country star Blake Shelton, a 24-hour marathon of this year’s Best Picture nominees and more.

Rana Santacruz’s songs have an old-world feel, not unlike Tom Waits or Iron and Wine. There’s one major difference that sets him apart — he sings in Spanish. See how he fights the preconception of world music as some sort of academic curiosity.

Also, see record reviews for singer Leigh Nash, German singer Max Raabe, singer-songwriter Teitur, hard-core group Police & Thieves and Norwegian singer Marit Larsen.

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up, and that means every Irish pub will be packed with people. Before that happens, head to Irish Whiskey Public House, which features 60 Irish whiskeys and 14 draft beers.

Pull off on K Street and get fill up your tank up pizza and wings at Fuel, the automotive-themed chain from North Carolina.

Mexican painter Frida Kahlo was more than just a prolific painter. Here physical struggles and famous lovers create for a salacious life story. But “Frida Kahlo: Her Photos,” an exhibit of candid pictures from the artist’s personal collection on display at Artisphere, feels too much like a historical replica and reveals little.

Get the latest movie reviews, including the Paul Rudd-Jennifer Aniston rom-com “Wanderlust,” the Woody Harrelson cop drama “Rampart” and Navy SEAL action flick “Act of Valor.”
