What to do with kids on New Year’s Eve

It seems like an adult holiday, but maybe it’s time to celebrate New Year’s Eve with the kids instead. Here are a few ideas for ringing in 2013, family-style.

• If you’re looking for something to do before the sun goes down, Port Discovery in Baltimore has a noontime New Year Superhero Spectacular, where you can count down to 2013 with an afternoon of live music, yoga and a dance party.

First Night Alexandria includes a Fun Hunt and other activities at 2 p.m., followed by more than 100 performances at 18 venues in Old Town. Fireworks are at midnight at the end of King Street.

The New Year’s Eve in Annapolis annual free event is centered around City Dock. The day starts with children’s events at 3 p.m., including music and crafts. There will be a round of fireworks at 7:30 p.m. so you can get the little ones to bed early. At 8 p.m., live music for adults begins, with more fireworks at midnight.
