The Nationals are in the playoffs. If you’re one of the lucky folks with tickets – or you just want to experience the postseason atmosphere – these happy hours are the perfect places to go for cheap drinks before, after or even during the game.
Justin’s Cafe : The closest bar and restaurant to Nationals Park, Justin’s has a progressive happy hour that works well for evening games. From 4 to 6 p.m., draft beers are $3 and rail drinks are $4. Prices go up $1 between 6 and 7 p.m., and then up to $5 drafts and $6 rails from 7 to 8. No matter when you go, though, you can grab two hot dogs and a side of fries for $5.
The Ugly Mug : This Barracks Row bar offers $4 selected drafts and $4 rail drinks from 4 to 7 p.m. on weeknights. Remember to hang on to your receipt, as it’s worth a free ride to the stadium on the golf cart-like Mug Bug. Those who stick around to watch the games at the Ugly Mug can take advantage of baseball specials, including $4 Miller Lite, Coors Light and Blue Moon drafts and $6 Orange Crushes.
Molly Malone’s : Molly Malone’s wants to be a pre- and post-game destination: The two-level pub offers $4 Miller Lite and Yuengling drafts two hours before the first pitch and one hour after the final out. This is in addition to the usual nightly specials that run from 7 p.m. to close, such as half-price burgers and $3 Miller Lite bottles (Monday) and half-price Irish nachos and bottles of wine (Tuesday).
Capitol Lounge : For those who are heading to the game from Capitol Hill, the Capitol Lounge is an easy place to meet before walking down to Nationals Park or grabbing the Circulator. From 4 to 7 p.m., take $1 off all drinks. There are all-night food specials, too, which ease post-game hunger pains. On Mondays, it’s half-price pizza; Tuesday bring half-price wings.
The Fairgrounds : Food trucks, cold beer and a location right across from the Metro have made the Fairgrounds a favorite place to gather before and after Nationals games, even if it hasn’t offered happy hour deals. Now, owner Bo Blair wants people to come watch the action there, too. Through the end of the National League playoffs, the bar will offer $3 16-ounce cans of Budweiser and Bud Light and $1 hot dogs from beginning of the third inning until the beginning of the eighth inning. (Corn hole remains free all day.) “We’d love for people to come down and be a part of the atmosphere, even if they don’t have tickets,” Blair says.
