Labor Day is nearly upon us, signaling the unofficial end to summer and wearing white. If you haven’t already made plans for the long weekend, there’s an abundance of area parades and festivals to check out, not to mention some parties worth giving that white dress (or bikini!) one last hurrah.
Mainstays such as the Kensington Labor Day Parade and Festival and the Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade are two solid options for getting your parade on, and the free Labor Day Concert outside the Capitol remains one of the best live music options around.
Farther afield, Madison, Va.’s Taste of the Mountains Main Street Festival celebrates all things crafty Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expect Main Street Madison to be lined with local artisans, food vendors, live music and more. Don’t forget pony rides for the kids and wine tastings for adults.
Closer in, the Herndon Labor Day Festival brings 12 wineries and a bunch of brewers together on Monday on the Herndon Town Green. $20 gets you wine and beer tastings.
This weekend also marks the end of some favorite D.C. summer happenings. Jazz in the Garden ends Friday and promises to be especially funky. The featured band is the Dixie Power Trio, and they’ll be playing zydeco and Cajun funk for the masses.
Adult Swim also winds down with a final bash on Sunday at the Capitol Skyline Hotel. In addition to DJ Moh and bongos by Handsmiths, stay tuned for some surprise entertainment.
