Williamson/The Washington Post)Pumpkin patches are doing bang-up business this time of year, but the golden gourds aren’t just for kids. Over the next couple of weeks, adults can sip on pumpkin cocktails, carve pumpkins while partaking of happy hour specials, or sample pumpkin beers.
Check out just a few of the events on our new list of the best places to get your pumpkin fix.
Celebrate the Pumpkin at Ris
Pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup and spiced pumpkin cocktails are all on the menu at the popular West End restaurant Ris, which fetes the fall staple on Oct. 29 to benefit D.C. Central Kitchen. Guests also can carve pumpkins. Reservations are required for the Pumpkin Celebration, and with a menu like this, they’re sure to go fast.
Show off your knife skills at the Hotel Helix
The Hotel Helix’s annual pumpkin-carving competition, set for Oct. 29, features 30 pumpkins, all pre-scooped for carvers to show their artistic flair. (Knives and tools are provided.) Even if you're not participating, there are rewards for showing up: Happy hour, which includes $2 PBRs, $3 Yuenglings, $6 cosmos and $7 burgers, is extended until 8 p.m.
Sample pumpkin beers
There’s a small window to get your fill of pumpkin beer, so you’d be wise to take advantage: Bier Baron hosts a pumpkin beer tasting on Oct. 27 with eight beers — including Weyerbacher Imperial, which won the Going Out Gurus’ Great Pumpkin Beer Taste Test last year. You can sample them all while decorating your own Halloween pumpkin.
