Jetties now open at 20th and I streets NW

A bit of beach in D.C. on a dreary day: Jetties, the sandwich and salad spot that has long held court in Foxhall, opened a new location today near 20th and I streets NW. The preppy, ocean-themed spot maintains nearly the same soup-salad-sandwich menu as its other locations (Bethesda, Glover Park and Georgetown), with menu items inspired by Nantucket beaches and owner Bo Blair's other restaurants, including Surfside and Smith Point.  A huge, cheery seascape mural stretches across the seating area.

Now, workers at the nearby World Bank and IMF have a new deli option in the area -- though, they should act fast before the place is overrun with GW students. The shop can seat about two dozen people, and its emphasis seems to be on catering for the many offices nearby.

Most sandwiches and salads are between $8-$10, with the exception of a $16 lobster roll. Vegetarians have some good choices, like the Pocomo -- roasted portobello mushroom, caramelized butternut squash and herbed goat cheese spread on toasted multigrain. Alex gave high marks to the Surfside, a turkey-havarti-bacon sandwich, though Fritz reported that his Quidnet -- Italian cold cuts, served hot -- was a tad heavy on the oil. My Smith Point -- roast beef, horseradish, havarti, tomato, and onion -- was tasteful, which is more than you can say for the Bush-era relic of a nightclub that is its namesake (ZING).
