Scott Weiland will perform not one but two STP albums at the Howard Theatre

In the category of "2013 concepts that would have been almost inconceivable in 2007," I'm putting "sherry and ham bar named for a Clash song opening in Shaw" near the top of the list, right after "Soundgarden perform at Inaugural Ball." Not far behind, though, is "Scott Weiland performing two Stone Temple Pilots albums at the Howard Theater."

But it's actually happening. The oft-erratic and occasionally crooning frontman of the  influential alternative rock band -- who we last saw lounge-singing Christmas tunes at the 9:30 Club -- will perform 1992's "Core" and 1994's "Purple" back-to-back when he plays the Howard on March 11. But "The Purple to the Core" tour isn't an STP reunion: It's Weiland, his backing band and two jewel cases full of memories. ("Caiiiin youuuu seeee ...")

Tickets go on sale Thursday at 3 p.m. through Ticketmaster. $39.50 in advance, $45 at the door.

Correction: A previous version of this post swapped release years for "Core" and "Purple." (Thanks, @IMGoph!)
