The 2013 James Beard Award semifinalists were announced earlier today, and Washington area chefs are out in force. Of the 20 potential nominees in the “Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic” category, more than a third are locals, including familiar names such as Johnny Monis, Cathal Armstrong and Vikram Sunderam. Also included: Cedric Maupillier, whose Mintwood Place is among the semifinalists in the “Best New Restaurant” category. All of the D.C. area figures are highlighted below; visit the James Beard Foundation Web site for a full list of semifinalists. The nominees for the 2013 James Beard Foundation Awards will be announced on March 18.
