ArtJamz outgrows its old space

A destination for those who feel like Monet after a few glasses of merlot, ArtJamz, the sip-and-paint spot near Dupont Circle, is upgrading to a bigger space next week. On Thursday, March 7, the new split-level loft studio at 1728 Connecticut Ave NW opens to the public seven days a week. For $12 an hour, you get unlimited use of the studio's materials like glitter and stencils -- with more materials now available in the larger space -- as well as a bar to lubricate that creativity. Canvases cost extra, and so do the drinks.

ArtJamz is also expanding to Crystal City, opening another studio for the Art Underground initiative at the Crystal City Shops on March 16. Beginning in April, potential art instructors can also pitch their classes to ArtJamz in a crowd-sourced marketplace: The studio will post potential classes on its site, and if enough students sign up, the instructor will be paid to lead the "ArtJamz Academy" class.

Afraid that your painting skills fall more along the line of failed fresco Jesus than than Mona Lisa? Art-trained "Creative Enablers" -- along with beer and wine -- will be there to help.
