With its debut album "Woman," lo-fi Los Angeles soul act Rhye has already captured the attention of music journalists. If you're a fan of mournful neo-R&B singers like Frank Ocean and the Weeknd, you'd be wise to snap up your tickets now for the band's show at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue on Thursday night.
Rhye incorporates electronica, strings and a soulful falsetto in songs that seem ripe for late-night listening. Behind the Sade-like voice is singer and producer Mike Milosh who, with producer Robin Hannibal (who generally doesn't tour with the band), created most of Rhye's songs. So secretive is the band about appearances (and gender) that it prefers to have its members' faces obscured in photos and during shows.
Get yourself up to speed with a few Rhye videos and a Spotify playlist of a few great tracks from "Woman." And check out this new KCRW performance, posted today.
