Graffiato is poised to serve chicken Parmesan and suckling pig sandwiches, Greek salad and zeppole on its ground floor during lunch May 13-17.
A change in flavor for the popular Italian restaurant? Nope, it’s just owner Mike Isabella previewing some of the menu he plans to serve at G, his 40-seat sandwich shop scheduled to open this summer near Kapnos at 2201 14th Street NW.
The second floor of Graffiato will remain open for lunch business as usual during the run of the pop-up. “I didn't want to mess with anything with Graffiato,” says Isabella, who figured he wouldn't do another temporary dining experience after the one he staged before the launch of Bandolero in Georgetown.
But the chance to get some feedback and a little buzz for G, which will offer a tasting menu by night, changed his mind. Isabella will be reviewing portion sizes, cooking speeds and customer reaction to his sandwiches and salads in a space at Graffiato that is similar to the layout at G.
The pop-up’s dishes will cost between $6 and $10 and will be offered between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. during the five-day run.
Construction and permits permitting, G and Kapnos are expected to open around the same time in late June or early July, Isabella says.
