The three chefs are nominated in the Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic category, along with Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore and Brad Spence of Philadelphia's Amis. Other locals to listen for at tonight's ceremony: CityZen sommelier Andy Myers, whose wine lists were nominated in the Outstanding Wine Program Category, and Minibar by Jose Andres, nominated in the Restaurant Design and Graphics Category.

Also being honored: The venerable lunchtime institution C.F. Folks, the recipient of an America’s Classics Award from the Beard Foundation.

We'll update this blog post if any local winners are announced. You can also watch the James Beard Foundation Awards live via webcast.

Johnny Monis's speech at the James Beard Awards ceremony on Monday:

"Anne Marler [Monis's wife and partner], you are beautiful and you are brilliant, and together we have surrounded ourselves with some of the most caring and hardworking and intelligent people that I have ever met. The fact that you have made our goals and our principles your own, we can never ever thank you enough for that. That really means the world to us. Thank you.

"Thank you to my family for showing me where an egg comes from, how vegetables grow. Those memories are really powerful and really kind of planted the seed for everything that we do. The fact that we’re taking this back to D.C. with us, just a little 12-table spot just a few miles from where I grew up, is really effing special, so thank you."
