Sound Bites turns up the volume on culinary charity

Just last week, Post critic Chris Richards wrote about how food is the new rock and roll, as festivals like Sweetlife’s annual salad-and-a-show gathering at Merriweather have proven. Here's another food and music pairing that goes together as well as mussels and frites: At the 9:30 Club on Sunday, May 19, you can listen to music and munch on small bites from more than 20 local restaurants for Sound Bites. It all benefits a good cause: A fundraiser for D.C. Central Kitchen.

Musical headliners include Lee Fields & The Expressions and Deathfix; Among the culinary headliners are Rappahannock Oysters and the soon-to-open Taco Bamba. It’s also one night at the 9:30 Club when “Gibson” won’t necessarily mean a guitar – that cocktail bar, along with Black Jack, Bar Pilar and Birch & Barley will be participating in a mixology competition judged by our own Fritz Hahn. Tickets are $40.

Maura Judkis covers culture, food, and the arts for the Weekend section and Going Out Guide.
