MONDAY
Media, Memory and the March on Washington

Next month will mark the anniversary of the March on Washington. The Newseum hosts a panel discussion on perceptions of Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech and the march in the media and popular culture. Panelists include professors Carole Blair, Kirt Wilson and Catherine Squires and journalists Frank Bond and Richard Prince.

TUESDAY
Wil Haygood: The Butler

The Washington Post reporter discusses his book "The Butler: A Witness to History," which tells the story of Eugene Allen, an African American man who worked as a White House butler for 34 years. Haygood's articles on Allen served as the inspiration for the upcoming release of director Lee Daniels's film "Lee Daniels' The Butler," starring Forest Whitaker. Beer and wine will be available.

WEDNESDAY
Jon Scales Fourchestra

As part of the free summer outdoor concert series, steel pannist Jon Scales, drummer Phil Bronson and bassist Cody Wright perform. Bring a blanket or beach chair to sit under the stars and listen to the ensemble play its jazz-infused music.

THURSDAY
'Should Your Birthplace Determine Your Future?'

South Africa's Ubuntu Education Fund and the Diplomatic Courier open a photography exhibit featuring work by photographer Tim Hans. The exhibit features photographs of the children enrolled in Ubuntu's Early Childhood Development program, who were
asked about their hopes and dreams. It will run through Aug. 31.

Film Screenings

Make Friday night movie night and take your pick of two screenings. The first installment of "Star Trek," starring Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana, screens as part of the Columbia Lakefront Summer Festival. If you're more of a Kevin Costner or Gene Hackman
fan, then head to the Union Market Drive-In series for "No Way Out."

SynchroSwim 2013

What do you get when you combine water and dance? Synchronized swimming, of course. After a pool party at the hotel, the Washington Project for the Arts hosts members of the Aether Art Projects, C&C Swimming Factory, Maida Withers Dance Construction Company and Virago in a synchronized swimming showcase.

SUNDAY
'Symbols, Series, Selves'

The Glenview Mansion Art Gallery will feature 52 works by members of the Women's Caucus for Art of Greater Washington. Sculptures, photography, oil, acrylic, watercolors and encaustic paintings will be on display through Sept. 3. During the exhibit opening,
musician James Mabry will perform at 2 p.m. in the conservatory.
