Red Apron and 3 Stars team up for Friday night cookouts at Union Market

Union Market is putting a gourmet twist on the usual summer cookout. On most Friday nights through the end of September, Red Apron Butchery and 3 Stars Brewing are taking over the outdoor Suburbia bar for fancy hot dogs and fresh local beer.

Beginning at 5 p.m. tomorrow, Red Apron will be grilling six of its deliciously quirky sausages, including the One Night In Bangkok (the fiery Atomic Dog with Viet slaw, Thai chilis and citrus aioli), Knockin on Heaven’s Door (knockwurst topped with hot mustard and bacon-braised sauerkraut) and the Queso Fundido (a chorizo dog topped with BBQ pork rinds, a smoked jalapeno relish and spicy Atomic Whiz). Dogs cost $6-$7 each, and the menu will change weekly. Red Apron will take Labor Day weekend off, so there will be no event on Aug. 30.

Meanwhile, the Suburbia bar, housed in a converted Airstream trailer, will feature four draft beers from 3 Stars; When I dropped by last weekend, the juicy, hoppy Two to the Dome Double IPA was the standout. Beers will sell for $7 each. Grab some food and a drink, then settle into an Adirondack chair in the grass, or play a few rounds of corn hole. (Ask for bean bags at the bar.)

This has been a busy week for Union Market, with the announcement that chef Ris Lacoste will open a stand later this year, and the launch of the Roadie, a shuttle service that will ferry hungry office workers from NoMa to Union Mark between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
