The Reef reopens at 5 p.m. today

The Reef, the Adams Morgan bar closed since a stabbing occurred inside the establishment on Aug. 10, will reopen at 5 p.m. today. The city's Alcoholic Beverage Regulatory Administration (ABRA) approved the Reef's new security plan Wednesday night, removing the last legal hurdle before the Reef's return.

Owner Brian Harrison says enhancements include "an expanded camera situation," after ABRA determined that all of the bar's security cameras were turned off during the Aug. 10 incident. Security guards will be hired from a private security firm, Metropolitan Security Professionals, instead of being hired by the bar itself. (An individual implicated in the stabbing was a Reef security guard, according to ABRA's incident report.)

The Reef still faces ABRA hearings about the incident, as well as a hearing about an unrelated simple assault that ABRA says occurred at the bar in June. The outcomes of those hearings could result in the bar being fined, or having its liquor license suspended or revoked.
