On a street with plenty of dark and dusky restaurants, one thing that sets Doi Moi apart is its brightness. Practically everyone gets a window view at the sunny 135-seat restaurant at 1800 14th St. NW, which is characterized by its white oak benches and white walls accented with tchotchkes from owner Mark Kuller's travels in Vietnam and Thailand. The only seats that don't have a window offer a different kind of people-watching, with 15 seats around the open kitchen and 16 seats at the bar.
The menu, inspired by Asian street food, still hasn't been finalized, and it looks as though diners who attended last night's Brainfood benefit heeded the restaurant's plea not to post reviews on social media, because we haven't seen any yet. In the meantime, take a sneak peek at the airy space, which is set to open on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
